Arc welding
Arc welding, also known as stick welding, is the process of using electricity to generate heat to melt and join metals. This process releases welding fumes that contain chromium compounds which can be highly hazardous to the respiratory system. Taking protective steps, like effectively extracting welding fumes, is vital to ensure the safety of your team.
MIG welding
MIG welding is the process of joining thick, large materials quickly and efficiently through welding. However, the metal, filler and substances that are used are often vapourised, creating toxic fumes and chemical smoke. This can displace oxygen and generate carbon monoxide gas at hazardous levels if adequate fume extraction is not present.
TIG welding
TIG welding refers to joining a wide range of small, thin metals such as stainless steel. During this process, the molten metal releases harmful molecules of metal and Ozone that can displace oxygen, causing respiration issues, dizziness and nausea. A well-ventilated environment and proper fume extraction can mitigate the risks of exposure to create a safer working environment.
