LEV Servicing

Our Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) services assess the performance of your fume extraction system, identifying potential issues before they pose a risk. Our LEV service and maintenance visits ensure your system remains compliant with COSHH regulations, ready for your LEV Test.

What’s Included in an LEV Service?

  • Visual Inspections: We thoroughly inspect the entire system for signs of wear and tear, such as dents or punctures.
  • Component Checks: Comprehensive inspections of all components, including hoods, filters, and fans, to determine if any parts need replacement.
  • Ducting Checks: Our engineers perform ducting checks to identify and rectify any blockages that could lead to system failure.
  • Electronic Checks: We ensure all control panels and electronic features are functioning optimally.
  • Cleaning: Where applicable, a thorough cleaning of all parts is performed to ensure peak performance.

Once completed, our engineers will share their findings and provide additional recommendations to prevent future downtime or system failures. These recommendations can range from minor adjustments to component replacements. Fortunately, at Purex, we supply, develop, and install a wide array of bespoke parts and fume extraction solutions, eliminating the need for outsourcing.

What’s the Difference Between an LEV Service and an LEV Test?

An LEV service is made up of a series of routine maintenance checks designed ensure your system is in good working order. Unlike an LEV test, servicing your LEV system isn’t mandatory, though it’s strongly encouraged to ensure your machine continues to operate efficiently.

An LEV test or a Thorough Examination and Test (TExT), is a legal requirement to certify your LEV system is safe to operate. Per COSHH regulations, all LEV systems must be tested and certified once every 14 months. Failure to do so can result in decommissioning systems, fines and even legal action.

The Benefits of LEV Services

In addition to ensuring the continued safety of your employees, regular LEV servicing and maintenance can offer a variety of benefits, including:

  • Reducing the risk of breakdowns that could endanger staff and halt production.
  • Increasing the longevity of your LEV system by regularly cleaning, maintaining and components.
  • Ensuring you pass your LEV test, by reviewing your fume extraction system before formally assessing it.
  • Reducing company costs otherwise spent on system repairs or replacements.
Your LEV Log Book

Your LEV Log Book

Once our qualified engineers have serviced your LEV system, it’s important to update your LEV log book. All LEV systems are required to keep a log book that includes:

  • Schedules for servicing and maintenance
  • Records of any services, replacements, and repairs made to your LEV system

If you have any questions about your LEV system, log book or our services, please contact our team. We have a technical helpline, so we support you daily with the maintenance of your machine.

FAQs

The duration of an LEV service depends on a variety of factors, including:

  • The number of systems being serviced
  • The complexity of the system(s)
  • The condition of the system(s)
  • The accessibility of the system(s) and related parts

For example, a standard single arm extraction system can take as little as 1-2 hours to service, whilst complex systems with multiple accessories and components can take over a day to fully inspect.

No, it’s not a legal requirement to service your LEV system, though it’s strongly recommended to ensure you pass your mandatory LEV tests. We recommend servicing your LEV system at least once a year, though frequently used machines may benefit from additional maintenance checks.

LEV servicing plays an important role in maintaining the health and safety of your employees. By ensuring your LEV system is consistently extracting harmful contaminants at a constant rate, you’re not only preventing sickness within your team, but you’re also safeguarding against liability claims. What’s more, regular maintenance checks allow you to perform remedial works as needed, preventing unexpected breakdowns or test failures that can be extremely costly and result in production downtime.
